When I was very young, my oldest sister would read to me constantly - usually books of which my mom disapproved. H.P. Lovecraft was one of these books that mom said was too scary for kids. She was probably right; Lovecraft scared the living hell out of me as a kid. You know what? He still does. His famous "Cthulhu Mythos" is truly a masterful creation of "Elder Gods" who existed before mankind and want, again, to break through their dimensional barrier and extinguish mankind. "The Dunwich Horror,"" and "Shadow Over Innsmouth" represent a splendid (and horribly scary)sample of the terrifying stores around which he threatened the Earth with the Elder Gods.

This is precisely what you are looking for. All of Lovecraft's stories consolidated into a single book for an excellent price. This IS the Mythos. There are no stories by those following HPL. There are no critiques, no rebuttals, and no dilutions.

Talk about a collection - when i saw the size of this beast i wondered if I had seen a glitch, if my eyes were giving out after all the horror I had read, or if Kindle was giving me yet another taste of the good life. I had already collected Dracula and a few others for next to nothing, and this seemed like I was doing the same. So i clicked, checked, and was a happy camper.

While you have a lot of small things here, the 67 alone is enough to send a reader into some mind-altered vortex that says, "Danger, Will Robinson." That danger was not danger at all, however, but was something that was good to the last drippy drop. you really can't beat the size of the beast you get here and, honestly, you can't keep from admiring just how lovely this thing is. It is horror at its finest and it is beautiful in the way you find it coming up and devouring your Kindle.

Maybe that's what was meant by waking the sleeping Cthulhu. He's a Kindle man and he's been waiting for... Read more

I picked up an early copy of Trickster at the SPACE convention in Columbus, Oh. in April. I have been reading bits and pieces of it here and there. I think that Trickster is a great showcase of different artists and writers on par with Image comics Comic Book Tattoo and Popgun anthologies. It differs in the fact that it is based on the "trickster" stories of Native Americans being the root theme.

Trickster has a great variety of artists that fit well with each of the different stories. I also think that this book is a great example of how graphic storytelling can reach a greater audience than just the core comic reader.

Each of the stories showcase a different aspect of the trickster persona that makes up a great deal of Native American lore and cautionary tales. The stories vary from cartoony versions of characters, storybook style illustration and fully painted tales.

Trickster is a great volume that reaches out to an very different collection of readers. The graphics are incredible and range from very abstract to the traditional comic. The size of the book is well thought out! It's not too big, so you can read each page with 3-5 panels and enjoy the non-busy pages of graphics. The artists have seemed to put a lot of themselves and their feelings into the stories. The Native American writers are unique. They give their geographic trickster life and take the reader on a quick adventure towards some lesson. I Googled the artists and storytellers and there were only a few I couldn't get a lot of information (if any) from. So I can see that most have an impressive track records. Well done!! Get this and learn about this important tradition and oh, you'll find out that Native Americans are still here - their not gone!

Folkloric stories are powerful. They can be emotional, funny, uplifting, or scary. But they always have pull to them, and that's why they continue to haunt and entertain people.

While there are special classes in school that teach mythology and folklore, it isn't always easy to find a class on Native American stories. Unfortunately, these stories are often pushed aside just as Native American culture and history can so often get left out of textbooks. Trickster: Native American Tales--A Graphic Collection is a unique remedy for this. In the form of a comic book, it tells 21 Native tales about tricksters. The tales range in style and emotion: Some are straightforward, some are humorous, some are frightening. All of them are interesting.

I read these books as a kid, too, and loved them. So, my 3rd grade daughter and I were reading them at night. We are reading "Superfudge" and it has several topics you may not be ready for. While most of the book is very funny and we had a lot of laughs, I was not laughing at the part about how babies are made. I also didn't enjoy the chapter, "Santa, who?" Just a warning to parents, they talk about not believing in Santa Claus. I know not everyone does, but we still do. So, I would wait to read these books until your child is a little older.

I have been reading Fudge since I was a pre-teen, so I thought I was getting the classics when I purchased this. Was I wrong!! Many of the original words have been changed. For instance: The original book had Peter asking for an airplane and records for Christmas, but the new version has him asking for CD's and an MP3 player. How silly! I wanted the classic and I didn't get it. I am truly upset that these books have been changed to impress the younger crowd. Records and airplanes aren't that foreign of an idea for kids to read about. It's like changing the words to "To Kill a Mockingbird!"

I couldn't believe it when another reviewer/reader said that these were changed from the original. I got my hands on copies, and sure enough, these have been changed! Pick a literary classic. Some are a positive chore to read because English has changed, and continues to do so. But I love the books because they are the books I read growing up. These books are NOT. Will a new generation enjoy them? Certainly. But can a previous one? Of all the things to sell out, why cheapen the childhood of a generation and pander this way? Boo to Judy Blume. This is unforgivable.
